This review is about Discovery Bicycle Tours (DBT) located in Woodstock Vermont.
1. The Bikes supplied were grossly inappropriate for the two Scotland road bicycling tours we booked with DBT to take place in early and mid – August 2023. The bookings were contingent upon the agreed upon explicit bike specifications (model, weight, wheel & tire size, drive train and fit).
2. The bicycle specifications and accessories were continued to be emphasized with DBT as late as July 31.
3. The bikes supplied were not in compliance with the agreed upon Jan. 2023 road bike specs.
4. The bikes were too heavy. Donna’s bike weighed nearly half her weight with very wide tires. DBT gave her a 29er configured for mountain trail cycling with shocks. Don’s bike was also a mountain bike with very wide tires along with shocks.
5. The outfitter / bike supplier argued “this is what you get”.
6. DBT focused entirely on compromising the agreed upon bike specifications ending in noncompliant bikes.
7. I argued on the first day during the bike fitting that we had been “Hood – Winked” by DBT. This further exacerbated the issue.
8. To avoid being expelled from the tours we had to compromise and ended up with very bad bikes.
9. In addition to the noncompliance, both our bikes had drivetrain problems during the entire 350 + miles of use.
10. DBT was blatantly deceptive in this entire bicycle deliverable.
11. We do not recommend DBT. DBT cannot be trusted. They should be avoided. Run away from these people. -
Mosel River Barge & Bicycle Tour 2019
My wife and have just returned from an absolutely fantastic week on the Mosel River with Discovery Bicycle Tours.
The whole week was great, from the accommodations and food on the barge (the chef was outstanding) to the great cycling everyday. The guides Rosita and Harmjan were accommodating, professional and extremely personable, helping to make the tour a trip to remember.
The week comprised a good mix of cycling, cultural visits and enough down time so you didn’t feel you were rushing everywhere.
It was our first trip with Discovery and it certainly won’t be our last -
We totally enjoyed our Scotland bike tour with Discovery Bicycle Tours. Our leaders were excellent, the bike routes were fun and the accommodations/food were great. We are already thinking about our next Discovery Bicycle tour.

We have taken several trips with Discovery Bike Tours ( the old Bike Vermont) and I would recommend their tours to EVERYONE. We’ve been to several Vermont trips, plus Maine, Scotland and our rent Tuscany trip. All were a home run!

Overall the trip was excellent. The tour guides were knowledgeable and friendly. The Inn was beautiful and clean. Even the weather was perfect – though I doubt they have much control over this 🙂 Going out to eat on Saturday was nice; however having dinner at 8:00 was a little late for me personally (I was ready to fall asleep when everyone was eating dessert). I did enjoy getting to choose what to eat, but on the other hand, it would have been nicer to stay at the Inn for dinner. This was my 2nd trip with this company and I would definitely tour with them again.

I always love how much the leaders extend themselves to make sure we have a good trip. They are so good at communicating, keeping an eye on us when we wander, making sure we’re safe, comfortable and well fed. This time they even made two short films for us of our trip! Our group was so harmonious; we really enjoyed each other’s company. We were lucky on the weather, too. The ride through the Wildlife Refuge was an especial treat. Improvements? How could there be anything better than a ride like this. Bicycle rental included in the trip cost! No hills! Good weather! Beautiful countryside! Enough crabcakes, steamed crabs, and softshell crabs to see.
