I’ve been on three trips with Cycle of Life and other people have signed up with them solely on my recommendation. The main guide on my most recent tour with Cycle of Life was Ellie, the owner of the company. Based on this last experience, I will never ride with them again. Here’s why:

    1) Multiple times, Ellie asked me and other riders if it was ok to leave us on the road on our own with no support (van and sweep rider would both be at least 20 miles ahead, in a place with no cell service.) The main reason that I paid thousands of dollars for this ride was the support, and this put me in the position of either consenting to something that didn’t feel safe or having to fight to receive the service I paid for.

    2) Similarly, one participant rode all day on a broken bike. At the end of the day, Ellie refused to pick her up in the van while her bike was being repaired. The participant was forced to walk from the bike shop to the hotel on a hot and humid afternoon.

    3) Lackluster, glum, and sullen are words that other members of the group used to describe Ellie’s attitude. I agree with them! There were several SAG stops where she literally did not look at me, smile, or say a single word to me. There were other times when she snapped at me, argued with me, or just stared at me with a silent frown.

    4) Our Ride With GPS instructions often did not match the actual stops. This sometimes seemed almost malicious – Ride With GPS told us to stop at a place with sightseeing and working restrooms but the van was actually parked two miles earlier in a place with nothing to see and restrooms that were closed – but at other times just seemed careless or lazy.

    5) Ellie told slower cyclists that they should just ride in the van. There was one participant who wanted to cycle but was afraid to because she thought she would be left behind.

    6) When people did opt to ride in the van, Ellie did not allow them to talk. I never experienced this myself since I cycled the whole way, but others said that this is what happened to them.

    7) We all filled out cumbersome and lengthy forms asking about food preferences, but none of our requests – including those listed for medical reasons – were accommodated. We had to repeatedly ask for what we needed, and even after those things were provided, they were hidden so we couldn’t access them without permission. The lunches and snacks were as lackluster as the guiding.

    8) On the last day, a member of the group was asked to get on a ladder and put bikes on top of the van. I’m sure that Cycle of Life’s insurance company would have a field day with this.

On the flip side, the hotels were fine and the dinners were often quite good.

Recently went on a tour of the Florida Keys, from Miami to Key West. The tour also included a short (15 mile) ride through the Everglades National Park. This was my first long distance bike tour so I was not sure what to expect. Both Dennis and Bobby did an excellent job of explaining, guiding, and advising, while working tirelessly along the tour. I was impressed with the way that they worked hard to ensure that the members of the tour group were well taken care of. The accommodations along the way were great, especially the stay in Key West. All meals were excellent, allowing the group to select anything from the menu. To say the least, no one went hungry. The route was easy to follow, and included a number of side trips to keep the tour interesting. I was impressed with the way that the tour was organized and would definitely recommend this tour, as well as this company, to anyone interested in seeing this part of the country.

Last month I had the pleasure to ride with Cycle of Life Adventures on the Colorado Fundo. This trip was nothing short of absolutely incredible! There are no worries! Elli and Dennis (the owners), plan your routes, feed you, meet you periodically to make certain all is OK, perform necessary repairs, or give you a ride in the van if you want a rest. Either Elli or Dennis will drive and the other will be on the bike ride watching over the group.
If you think you cannot do this, you are mistaken. There are riders of all levels. Short routes and long routes are available, and you can call for van support at any time. The routes are given early with instructions to download a program which will guide you if needed.
Elli and Dennis are the absolute best hosts ever! I am serious: they think of every detail and cater to whatever you might need. I was so surprised to find all my favorite snacks and drinks provided. Everyone else was treated equally as special with their own favorites.
Meeting and riding with strangers who rapidly become friends is an added bonus. Our cohesive group got to know one another on the first evening at dinner, and then spent every day and evening enjoying fun and laughter and a bond that only occurs when sharing such an incredible adventure.
The routes we took were so beautiful that I could have stopped constantly for photos. Instead-I have decided to simply do another trip as soon as possible. My trip was over a month ago and it still fills me with happiness to reminisce about this absolutely perfect vacation!
If you are contemplating this trip-just do it!!! You will create a life time memory and will enjoy the best trip of your life! I absolutely found paradise on this ride and am sure you will too!

My wife and I participated in Cycle of Life Adventure’s 2018 Natchez Trace tour and we had a great time. There were two days of rain on this tour and we were so glad that we had a dry and warm hotel room to look forward to. We ate better on this tour than we ever do at home. What we appreciated most of all was the outstanding level of service that the owners Eli and Dennis provided. Their enthusiastic readiness to accommodate the riding styles of the various participants was especially welcome. We would not hesitate to use Cycle of Life Adventures again.
